Why We Love GOTS Certification
Natural fibers are our favorite - but GOTS certification takes it to the next level, assuring us that our clothing isn’t just labeled organic—it’s rigorously certified organic and that comes with some big implications.
GOTS, or the Global Organic Textile Standard, was established in 2006 and remains the highest international benchmark for organic fiber processing. This comprehensive standard governs the entire textile journey—from the sustainable cultivation of organic fibers to good stewardship of the earth and ethically responsible manufacturing and labeling.
Recognized worldwide, GOTS certification ensures that no matter where a certified product is grown or made, it upholds the same ethical standards across the entire supply chain.
Seeing “organic” or “made with organic fibers” on a label is a good start—but it doesn’t always guarantee the highest standard. Many textiles can carry the organic label with as little as 70% organic fibers. In contrast, GOTS certification requires a minimum of 95% organic fibers, and everything from the dyes and treatment of workers is affected by that certification.
GOTS certification protects you and your family in three key areas:
A safe, organic product
-
Organic fibers are kept separate from conventional ones to prevent confusion and contamination.
-
GOTS strictly bans harmful chemicals in the manufacturing and packaging process such as formaldehyde, GMOs, toxic heavy metals, chlorine bleach, phthalates, and carcinogenic dyes.
-
All dyes, processing chemicals, and auxiliaries must be biodegradable and non-toxic.
Stewards the earth well
-
Minimal waste and water usage in the manufacturing process.
-
Strict environmental management plans.
-
Transparent record-keeping of energy consumption, waste disposal, and emissions.
Ethical & Fair Treatment for Workers
GOTS certification ensures that every worker involved in production is treated with fairness, dignity, and respect, following International Labour Organization (ILO) standards, which include:
-
No forced or child labor.
-
The right to fair wages and collective bargaining.
-
Safe, clean working conditions.
-
Reasonable working hours and adequate time off.
-
A commitment to non-discrimination in the workplace.
To maintain these high standards, regular on-site audits and testing are required at every stage of the supply chain.
We love bringing you clothing collections that are made with love, to build in your wardrobe on your natural fiber journey, as you care for your family and fulfill your daily duties in pieces that contribute to your wellbeing and support every season of your life.
