A Day in the Life of a Homemaker & Homeschool Mom
Beka and I met a few years ago as we were both sharing theology online, and our friendship from afar was a natural progression as we quickly discovered how similar and likeminded we are. Beka has been our Adorned team member from the beginning. We hope you enjoy reading about some of Beka's daily life as a homemaker and homeschool mom - and get inspired if you're in this season of life, too.
As a homemaker and homeschool mom I find it necessary to have order in the home and structure for the kids. Time and time again I have drifted from our well-established routine and all it does is create chaos. Lately we have fully established a routine that has worked and our family is thriving on. I used to get up early and read Scripture before the kids got up but noticed this was an avenue I could invite my oldest daughter into. Now I wake her early when I get up and we have a cup of tea and read our Bibles together and pray. It’s such a sweet time that I look forward to and pray that it becomes a cherished memory for her in years to come.
After reading, I make a healthy breakfast for us that will fuel us for the day ahead. Lately, my favorite has been eggs, breakfast chicken sausage, arugula salad and kiwi. One of the children will help clean up the kitchen and dining after breakfast while the others make beds and do morning chores. After morning chores we do Bible time of which right now we are studying Proverbs which propels us into school work that we do for the next couple hours. By the time we are done with school, it is time for lunch and we prefer eating earlier so we have plenty of time to have our outside time to go on a walk to our neighborhood playground.
After a couple hours of fun outside, we walk back and do our elective for the day whether that is science, history, or handwriting which we all do together. After this, I read to them a read aloud which always puts my littlest naturally down for a nap lol. We usually read a missionary biography or a Lamplighter book. It has been such a blessing to learn together of so many missionaries and their testimonies and it is another favorite part of my day.
After this, the kids get to their chores to tidy up before dad gets home from work as he and I value him coming home to a clean home. Anything that had been brought out during previous free time has to be put away and things checked off the chore list for the day. In this season as I'm pregnant with my fifth, I am not able to do anything but manage their chores.
My husband gets home and we have dinner, get the kids ready for bed and do family worship to end our evening. In the beginning, I didn’t think it would work out because there never seems to be enough time in the day but the Lord has been gracious that our routine has worked perfectly for our family and each family has to figure out what works for them. We are stewards of our time and this time we have with our littles one is such important work. I’m honored and humbled to have the opportunity.
